SCRIPTURES OF THE DAY (PROVERBS 3:1-19)

My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:

For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

WILL CHRISTIANS FACE A DAY OF JUGDEMENT?

Believer was one day stand before Christ and be held accountable for how they have lived (2 Corintians 5:10). Apparently, believers in the first century trembled at the thought of such a judgment. Truly the thought of such a judgment. Truly the thought is sobering. Yet John shows how we can drive such fear of it from our lives.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY (2 CORINTHIANS 11:22-33 “SUFFERING FOR CHIRST”)

22 Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I

23 Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.

24 Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.

  1. 1.In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.

And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

EVERYDAY LIFE IN BIBLE TIMES (PLUNDER)

From an early age we are taught to respect the belongings of others even if our size and strength make it possible to take them by force. In order to understand the actions of the people of the ancient Near East, we need to make a major adjustment in this thinking. Within the cultural construct of this world, the expectation was that those who were victorious in battle had the right to seize the personal property of those defeated and even enslave the owners of that property. This practice of plundering is mentioned repeatedly in the literature of the ancient world peatedly in the literature of the ancient world and illustrated in the art of the empires that rose to power during the Old Testament era.

As a physical feature, darkness is nothing in and of itself. Darkness is instead defined as the absence of light. Synonymous with emptiness, darkness is used to describe the earth at the very beginning of creation when “darkness covered the deep water” (Gen 1:2). Out of this absence, the first thing God created was light. In the beginning, Scripture pictures light and darkness as balanced parts of a single day and night: “So God separated the light from the darkness. God named the light day, and the darkness he named night” Gen 1:4-5). Continue reading SIGNGS AND SYMBOLS OF THE BIBLE (DARKNESS)

Day is one of the units of time we use to mark life. Typically, we think of days as the time between sunup and  sundown, followed by night. But right from the beginning, God has exercised his divine authority over time by defining days in an unexpected manner. In the account of creation in Genesis 1, six times the record repeats, “There was evening, then morning-the first day” (v5), changing only the number of the day of the week.
