DEFFINITION OF THE DAY (DREAMS PT3)

WERE DREAMS EVER WRONG OR WRONGLY INTERPRETED?

Dreams were neither foolproof nor infallible. Both Jeremiah and Zechariah spoke against relying on dreams to express the revelation of God. Dreams could come without being God’s word (Jer 23:28). Jeremiah lumped dreamers together with soothsayers, sorcerers, and false prophets (Jer 27:9). He cautioned exiles in Babylon not to listen to dreamers and false prophets who told them that the exile would not be long (Jer 29:8). Zechariah pointed people toward the Lord, apparently because they were relying on dreamers and others to give them the truth (Zech 10:1-2). Thus while God often used dream to reveal His will, there is a warning, too, not to rely on this method to know the will of God.

DEFINITION OF THE DAY (NEW TESTAMENT)

istockphoto-92890253-612x612

Most NT uses of words for purity relate to cleanness of some types. Old Testament meanings are often reflected. Perfection is the meaning in Mark 14:3; this is mixed with religious purity in Heb 10:22; 1 Jhn 3:3. Continue reading DEFINITION OF THE DAY (NEW TESTAMENT)

MEN OF THE BIBLE (JESUS: THE PERFECT EXAMPLE)

49758-Jesus-crucifixion-1200x627-thinkstock.1200w.tn

Jesus was fully God when he came to earth. He was also fully human. He can empathize with our weaknesses and our limitations.

By the same token, he is also acutely aware of our potential as humans because he maximized his. He knows not just who we are and what we’re like but also what we can become. Continue reading MEN OF THE BIBLE (JESUS: THE PERFECT EXAMPLE)

Some Christians join skeptics on this point. They doubt Matthew’s claim about Mary: “While she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 1:18), Continue reading A PREGNANT VIRGIN?

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY (2 CORINTHIANS 10:1-5: PAUL DEFENDS HIS AUTHORITY)

download-20

  1. Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
  2.  But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which thin of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
  3.  For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
  4.  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
  5.  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

MESSAGES ON FOOT

Job complained about the brevity of human life by declaring that his days went by faster than a swift runner. He was probably referring to the fleet-footed messengers used by Old Testament kings to carry important messages to distant places. Continue reading MESSAGES ON FOOT

SIGNS AND SYMBOLS OF THE BIBLE (HORSE)

horse-web

Horse make their appearance in Scripture as early as Genesis 47:17, where they are mentioned among the possessions the Egyptians handed over to Joseph in exchange for food to survive the seven-year famine. An earlier reference to horses may be found in God’s words to Job about the wonders of creation that humans cannot duplicate: Continue reading SIGNS AND SYMBOLS OF THE BIBLE (HORSE)

IN WHAT WAY WAS JESUS THE “WORD”?

Bible-Fall-1600x600-e1435092695202-450x450

John’s use of the “Word” to describe Jesus was a startling new application of a popular expression. The term was used widely by theologians and philosophers, both Jews and Greeks. It described the agent of creation (Psalm 33:6); God’s message to His people through the prophets (Hosea 1:2); and God’s law, His standard of holiness (Psalm 119:11). In Greek philosophy, “the Word” was the principle of reason that governed the world. Continue reading IN WHAT WAY WAS JESUS THE “WORD”?

HOW DOES THE “ARMOR OF GOD” PROTECT A CHRISTIAN?

The armor of God is Paul’s vivid illustration of the spiritual equipment that Christ provides to those who trust Him. These pieces of armor are essential to survival and victory in the spiritual warfare that is a real (though invisible) part of each life.
