WHAT IS GRACE?

We hear the word a lot around Christian circles, sometimes referring to a prayer before a meal, sometimes to a great big idea associated with the gospel, sometimes as a girl’s name. Paul’s used the term throughout his letters to speak of God’s special favor to every person, the underserved benefit we have of God’s mercy in sending Jesus to die for our sins.

WHY IS GOD SAID TO BE “LIGHT”?

In the Bible, light indicates what is good, pure, and holy. Darkness is synonymous with sin and evil. To say that God is light is to assert that God is perfectly pure and holy. Only God is without sin. He is the standard of perfection and truth by which everything is measured.

DEFINITION OF THE DAY (GOVERNMENT “THE NATURE AND CALLING OF MAN”)

The fundamental truth about government in the Bible’s worldview and metanarrative is that the one triune God revealed in the Scriptures of the OT and NT is the sovereign ruler from which all authority flows. Whatever man and human governments are, they are not to be confused with god(s)-though some may make claims to that effect. On the other hand, they are not mere usurpers upon the creation. Man is the pinnacle of God’s creation. The psalmist, echoed by the writer of Hebrews in the NT, marveled poetically that God was “mindful” of man at all (Ps 8:4-6 NIV; Heb 2:6-8 KJV); but Scripture affirms human dominion over the earth (Gen 1:28-30; Psa 8:6-8; 115:16).

SCRITPURES OF THE DAY (MATTHEW 9:1-8 “JESUS FORGIVES AND HEALS A PARALYTIC”)

And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city.

And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

HOW CAN KNOWING CHRIST MAKE YOU ALIVE?

Knowing Christ makes you alive because God wakes up your spiritual nature that was previously dead. Jesus called that being “born again.” Just as we were born physically and brought into the living. breathing, and moving of physical life, God wants to awaken the spiritual nature He created in each one of us. When we seek God, His Spirit breathes new life into us and we become alive in Christ.

WHAT MADE DAVID ONE OF HISTORY’S OUTSTANDING LEADERS?

God declared that His choice for a new king would be “a man after his own heart” (1 Sam 13:14) Not that David was perfect, but his attitudes and inclinations were in the right direction-toward praise and faith in God as an almighty, all-caring sovereign. One glance at David’s life can’t miss the glaring mistakes he made, but David never tried to blame others or make excuses for his sins.

DOES GOD BECOME SO ANGRY AS TO REFUSE TO LISTEN TO PRAYERS?

God always listens to prayers, That does not mean, however, that He is always going to answer them or necessarily be pleased that the person is praying. In Jeremiah 14, God had already made up His mind that He was going to punish Israel for their sins. He told Jeremiah not even to bother praying for the people. Furthermore, He told Jeremiah that He wasn’t going to listen to the cries of the people.
