THE ULTIMATE BIBLE GUIDE (THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO NAHUM PT2)

GOD’S STORY

When the Events of this Book Happened:

Sometime between 663 and 612 B.C.

During this time, Assyria dominated the ancient Near East. Samaria and the northern kingdom of Israel fell to Assyria in 722. In 663, Assyria had conquered the magnificent Egyptian stronghold of Thebes, located on the Nile River some 400 miles south of the Nile Delta. In Nah. 3:8, the prophet reminded the Assyrians of their great triumph. (“No” in the KJV is an alternate name for Thebes.) His argument was, if mighty Thebes fell, who are you to think you will stand

This event was recalled centuries later when the poet spoke of the Lord as the one “who touches the mountains, and they smoke” (Psa 104:32; 144:5). The mountains of the Promised Land are

MANNERS AND CUSTOMS OF THE BIBLE (AGRICULTURE) “PART 1OF 2”

India_Farming

When the Jewish people entered Canaan and took up agriculture after the seminomadic life of forty years in the wilderness, they were entering into work that went back in their own history for hundreds of years and into a country that was extremely rich in plants. Ur of the Chaldees, where Abraham had come from, was sustained by healthy agricultural system based on irrigation ditches from the river bank, stone ploughshares, and flint
