DEFINITION OF THE DAY (HEMORRHAGE)

Heavy or uncontrollable bleeding the KJV translates the underlying Hebrew and Greek terms as “issue of blood” (Lev 12:7; Matt 9:20) or “fountain of blood” (Mark 5:29). Modern translations render these terms as hemorrhage, flow, or discharge of blood, Mosaic law said any discharge of blood, whether associated with the birthing process (Lev 12:7), with menstruation (Lev 15:19), or continued bleeding (Lev 15:25; Matt 9:20) rendered a woman unclean.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN FACTIONS SPLIT A CHURCH?

The church in Corinth split probably for the same reasons modern-day churches do. Some people identified with the ministry style of Peter. Others were drawn to Paul’s personality. Still others felt a connection with Apollos. We rightly learn from the insights of spiritual leaders, but crowing about one’s own leader and criticizing all others is wrong, petty, and immature.

SCRIPTURES OF THE DAY (2 CORINTHIANS 11:3-15)

For I suppose I was not a whit behind the very chiefest apostles.

But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things.

Have I committed an offence in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely?

THE HIGH PRIEST

GREAT HIGH PRIEST

When Christ is called our Great High Priest (Hebrews 4:14) it is because he and he alone was chosen by God to make the perfect sacrifice and intercession for us before God’s merciful throne-and not before an earthly throne, but before the very throne of God’s presence!

MEN OF THE BIBLE (DO ANGELS STUDY?)

Apparently, angles have the desire to understand God’s way. The meaning of the phrase “eagerly watching” implies observing with intensity and effort. Perhaps angels study God’s ways to marvel more fully at His grace and power. On this model, angles are like intelligent and gifted apprentices who eagerly seek to understand the mind of the Master.

WOMEN OF THE BIBLE (SARAH)

The Bible doesn’t reveal how Sarah (Sarai) reached when she learned that Abram wanted her to be his wife (see Gen 11:29). We’re also not told how she handled the fact that she was barren (see 11:30), though we could probably imagine how devastating this realization was.

EVERYDAY LIFE IN BIBILE TIMES (WEAVE PT1)

The typical family of Bible times had its own looms and some family members who were skilled at the art of weaving (Prov 31:13). At its most fundamental level, weaving involved the interlocking of threads at right angles to one another in order to create a piece of cloth that could function as a garment, tent curtain, or even carrying sack. The threads were derived from wool, flax, or goat hair that could be left in their original, subtle tone or be dyed radiant colors.

DEFINITION OF THE DAY (INN)

Different kinds of shelters or dwellings. In the OT the Hebrew word translated “inn” or “lodging place” might refer to a camping place for an individual (Jer 9:2), a family on a journey (Exod 4:24), an entire caravan (Gen 42:27; 43:21), or an army (Josh 4:3,8). In these passages (with the possible exception of the reference in Jeremiah) the presence of a building is not implied. Often the reference is only to a convenient piece of ground near a spring. It is doubtful that inns in the sense of public inns with a building existed in OT times.

HOW CAN A VIRGIN GIVE BIRTH?

Physically, it is not possible. While certain organic species are able to procreate without cross-gender mating. Humans have never done so apart from the miraculous conception here. It is not possible to formulate any scientific explanation for the fertilization and pregnancy process described in this passage. Nor are we given any information on the nature of God’s role in this birth, other than attributing Mary’s pregnancy to divine intervention.
