WHY DO PEOPLE REGULARY FAIL TO LISTEN TO GOD?

People seem to have a monopoly on being stubborn and determined that their way is the right way. You can see it in the way a toddler is set on touching the hot stove. Nothing is going to stop that child. Parents can reason with the child, explaining their own experiences with a hot stove or discussing the physics of heat transfer through solid objects.

Why, they can even give the child a swat or two on the behind if he or she gets too close to the stove. The child’s determination and stubbornness, however, will send him or her teetering toward that stove, “all system go” to learn the hard way.

Another group says that the more spectacular, so-called “sign” gifts (prophecy, tongues, healing) were given only for the beginning era of the church (people who hold this position are called “cessationists”). Still others teach that all the gifts were temporary in nature.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY (1 CORINTHIANS 12:12-23)

12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

14 For the body is not one member, but many.
