SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY (JEREMIAH 10:1-15 “IDOLS AND THE TRUE GOD”)

1Hear ye the word which the Lord speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:

Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.

BIBLE CUSTOMS AND CURIOSITIES (GOD OF THE HILLS AND VALLEYS)

King Ahab of Israel had won a previous battle against the Syrians (1 Kings 20:21), apparently among the hills and mountains of Israel. The victory gave rise to the Syrian claim that the God of Israel was a god of the high country, not of the level plains.
