When Scripture Is Twisted for Personal Gain

One of the earliest and most dangerous tactics used against the people of God is the twisting of Scripture. It does not begin with rejecting the Word but with altering it just enough to distort its meaning. Satan himself used Scripture when tempting Jesus, yet he quoted it in a way that served his agenda instead of God’s truth. This pattern continues today through false preachers who misuse the Bible to justify greed, deceive believers, or elevate themselves.

Recognizing Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing

Jesus warned that not every spiritual leader is motivated by love for God or care for the souls of people. Some enter ministry with hidden intentions, seeking wealth, influence, admiration, or control. These kinds of leaders are described in Scripture as wolves in sheep’s clothing. They look harmless, speak religious language, and carry spiritual titles, yet their hearts are not aligned with the mission of Christ. Their outward appearance hides their inward motives.
