King David summoned Mephibosheth, the lame son of his deceased friend Jonathan, to his palace. This verse describes how Mephibosheth responded when the king offered to take care of him      To the Israelites, dogs were worthless and despised animals (1 Samuel 17:43; Psalm 22:16). Mephibosheth’s description of himself as a “dead dog” indicates that he thought he was unworthy of King David’s kindness and compassion.

2 SAMUEL 9:8- He [Mephibosheth] bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou [David] shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?
