Surely they should follow God, but following God requires that we observe and follow leaders who are following God. Mature Christian mentors help our faith develop and our understanding of God’s will to grow.
Leaders are those who are learning to see God in decision making, to hear God in relationship building, and to exult in God in resource sharing. Leaders are people growing in knowledge and teaching skills who have compassion for younger Christians and for people who do not yet have true faith. Leaders are people walking with God, taking steps of faith praying for daily guidance, and growing in the ability to speak about what they know. Leaders are people who worship God joyfully, work for God when no one seems to be watching, and pray for the needs of others consistently.
We do well to learn from these leaders as a way to learn about God.
HEBREWS 13:7 – 7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.
