The word about Jesus’ ability to heal the sick had spread to the point that when He returned to Peter’s house after a trip through Galilee (where He had recently healed a leper), a large crowd gathered outside, hoping for an encounter with Jesus.
By the time the four men and their paralyzed friend arrived, they couldn’t get him near enough to the door, so they removed a portion of the roof and lowered him at Jesus’ feet. He responded in a remarkable way: “When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven’ ” (verse 5 NIV).By referencing “their faith, ” Jesus saw the four men and their friend as a collective unit (a spiritual superteam, if you will) who exercised their faith in His ability to forgive and ultimately heal.
A supernatural power that this world cannot understand, or often accept, occurs whenever two or three are gathered in Christ’s name. For in this circumstance, Christ dwells. Do you have a group of spiritual brothers who share your faith? Are you willing to tear the roof off a spiritual barrier for one another?
MARK 2:3-4 ESV- And they came, bringing to him [Jesus] a paralytic carried by four men. And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay.
