Crowns were worn by kings as symbols of authority and power (2 Samuel 1:10). James compared the believer’s inheritance of eternal life through the atoning death of Jesus Christ to a crown.
This crown, unlike earthly and physical status symbols, will never grow tarnished or love its luster because of changing cultural standards. It’s has an “eternal lifetime” warranty from the King of kings and Lord of lords (Revelation 21:5-7).
JAMES 1:12 – Blessed is the man that endureth temptation [perseveres under trial, NIV]: for. . . be shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
