The Good News is powerful and life changing. It’s the true story of Jesus Christ coming to earth as a human to give His life as a sacrifice and payment for our sins. Through Jesus we have an open door to God’s forgiveness and eternal life. The Good News is full of hope, and responding to Jesus is the start of a new life. God’s Holy Spirit makes us a new creation (see 2 Corinthians 5: 17). We’re not just turning over a new leaf; we are starting a new life and putting Jesus in charge.
The Good News rebuilds our self-esteem when we realize that God not only created us but loves us so much that He sent Jesus so we could be reconciled with Him. We learn that God is not far away or uninterested in us. We can pray and share our burdens with God because He cares for us. Our behavior is dramatically changed as God’s Holy Spirit reveals changes we need to make in our lifestyle. The Holy Spirit gives us power to break the bonds of self-destructive habits. Although we will struggle with sin as long as we live on this earth, God does not give up on us. He guides us each day like a loving father and cares for us even when we fail.
The old agenda of self-advancement and competition with others is discarded. There is no reason to fear others or live in guilt because God accepts us as we are and continues to mold us into the image of Jesus. Life now has a clear purpose–to love God with all our heart, mind, and strength, and to love others as we love ourselves. Success is redefined as obeying God and becoming like Jesus. Our life focus is no longer on serving ourselves, but serving God and pleasing Him.
