The foundation of the Christian life is not simply following rules or adopting a moral code. It is the reality that Christ lives within you. This truth changes everything. Colossians 1:27 declares, “Christ in you the hope of glory.” This means that the life you now live is not meant to reflect your old nature but the character of Jesus working through you.
When a person comes to Christ, there is a transformation that takes place. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if anyone is in Christ the new creation has come the old has gone the new is here.” This new life is not about outward appearance alone. It is an inward change that begins in the heart and flows outward into every part of your life.
Christ in you is revealed through the way you think, speak, and act. Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” As your mind is renewed by God’s Word, your thoughts begin to align with His truth. This transformation leads to a life that reflects His will rather than the influence of the world.
The character of Christ is most clearly seen in the fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22 and 23 teaches that “the fruit of the Spirit is love joy peace patience kindness goodness faithfulness gentleness and self control.” These are not traits that come from human effort alone. They are produced by the Spirit of God dwelling within you. When Christ is truly at work in your life, these qualities begin to grow and become evident to others.
Jesus Himself is the perfect example of what this character looks like. He walked in humility, compassion, truth, and obedience. Philippians 2:5 says, “In your relationships with one another have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.” This means that your attitude toward others should reflect His heart. You are called to love as He loved, serve as He served, and forgive as He forgave.
Showing the character of Christ also means putting to death the old ways of living. Colossians 3:8 says, “But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these anger rage malice slander and filthy language from your lips.” You cannot fully reflect Christ while holding on to behaviors that contradict His nature. This requires daily surrender and a willingness to let God shape you.
At the same time, Scripture calls you to put on the character of Christ intentionally. Colossians 3:12 says, “Therefore as God’s chosen people holy and dearly loved clothe yourselves with compassion kindness humility gentleness and patience.” This is a daily decision to walk in the qualities that reflect who Christ is.
Christ in you is also seen in how you respond to trials. When difficulties come, your reaction reveals what is within you. James 1:2 and 3 says, “Consider it pure joy whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” Trusting God in hard times shows that your faith is real and that Christ is at work within you.
It is important to remember that this transformation is a process. You will not reflect Christ perfectly at all times, but growth should be evident. Philippians 1:6 reminds us, “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” God is continually working in you to shape your life into the image of His Son.
The goal is not to draw attention to yourself but to make Christ visible through you. Matthew 5:16 says, “Let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” When people see your life, they should see evidence of God’s presence.
Christ in you is not meant to remain hidden. It is meant to be lived out daily. Through your character, your actions, and your response to life, others should be able to see a reflection of Jesus. And when they do, your life becomes a testimony of the power and grace of God working from the inside out.
