The ritual of baptism is not a gate of entry into God’s family. Baptism is an outer ritual that recognizes the inner saving work of Jesus and pledges of life of discipleship in response.
To be baptized into God’s family is to obey God, but it is not salvation itself. That is effected through a person’s commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, of which baptism is a symbol.
1 Peter 3:21 – 21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
