To win the girl of his dreams-Saul’s daughter Michal-David had to come up with foreskins from one hundred Philistines; he came up with two hundred.
To keep this lady’s love, however proved impossible.
The gruesome bride price was Saul’s idea. Insanely jealous of the giant killer’s popularity, Saul hoped David would die fighting the Philistines.
Sometimes after the marriage, Michal found out that her father planned to kill David. She helped David escape and bought him time by stalling the assassins.
Since David became a fugitive, Saul married Michal to another man. Years later, after Saul died, David demanded Michal back. She apparently didn’t want to come. Her second husband followed, weeping, until he was ordered home.
The Bible’s last scene about Michal reports her contempt for David. He danced her contempt for David. He danced as priests brought into Jerusalem the sacred chest containing the Ten Commandments. But Michal said in disgust, “How glorious the king of Israel looked today! He exposed himself to the servant girls like any indecent person might do”! (2 Samuel 6:20) Michal died children
