Traditional English Piety

can’t help but wonder at the life of Joseph, the favored son of Jacob and firstborn son of Rachel. God led Joseph through a roller coaster of ups and downs which were instrumental in the creation of the nation of Israel. From his status as privileged son, Joseph was sold into slavery by jealous brothers. But God led Joseph to become the servant of an Egyptian official and brought him prosperity.

Then a false accusation landed Joseph in prison. Still, God was with Joseph. God inspired Joseph to interpret Pharaoh’s dream, and he was raised to the second highest position in Egypt. God used Joseph there not only to prepare Egypt for upcoming years of famine, but also to provide a place for nascent Israel to prosper and grow into a nation.

Joseph’s rise to greatness seemed unlikely at many periods of his life, yet God was at work, guiding events in order to provide not only for Joseph, but for God’s people at large.

When you’re going through rough times, don’t despair. Remember that “neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39 NIV).

Genesis 45:26: Joseph is still alive! in fact, he is ruler of all Egypt.
